What length SKE course should I apply for?

Your ITT provider will specify the length of SKE course required in your offer. If you need to change the length of SKE course at any time, please seek permission from your ITT provider first.

How long does the course take?

It is recommended by the DfE that you should study 25 hours per week on a full-time SKE course. However, our SKE courses are designed to be flexible so you can study for fewer hours and take longer to complete your course.

All SKE courses must be completed by August 2024.

SELF-FUNDED SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE ENHANCEMENT COURSES

What if I am not eligible for a DfE funded SKE course?

We offer a self-funded option if you do not meet the criteria for DfE funding. The self-funded SKE courses are suitable for:

  • In-service teachers wishing to update or develop their subject knowledge or wishing to offer an additional subject

  • ITT applicants wishing to boos their subject knowledge without having a place on an ITT course

  • Those whose degree is in the same subject as their ITT subject and was obtained not longer than 5 years ago

Our self-funded SKE courses benefit from the same flexibility and support as the funded SKE courses.

In addition to the subjects above, the self-funded SKE courses are also available in Geography. There is currently no DfE funding for SKE courses in Geography.
